The Innkeepers of Num-Ti-Jah Lodge

Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Rossel and Shannon Sabourin fell in love with Num-Ti-Jah Lodge during their first trip to the Rockies together back in 2008. Rossel returned to the Rockies to work at the lodge for the summer of 2009, and in 2010 the pair took on the roles as fulltime innkeepers. These roles bring them to the lodge from late April to October each year, and for the winter months they try to travel as much as possible and visit with family and friends in Manitoba where Shannon also works as a respiratory therapist.

Rossel and Shannon particularly enjoy how the beauty of the Rockies changes from day to night and season to season. When they aren’t working these innkeepers spend all their time in the outdoors - hiking, climbing and canoeing. Fortunately, living at Bow Lake provides them with the perfect opportunity to pursue these passions, and to introduce the beautiful wilderness to guests from around the world.

Rossel and Shannon’s engagement in July 2012 also reflected their love for the Bow Lake area, the outdoors and high places. Rossel schemed to have a table and chairs, linens, a gourmet spread and champagne (including glasses, ice-filled bucket and stand) brought to the top of Little Crowfoot Mountain, where he proposed to Shannon. She said “yes” (thankfully, after all that hard work!) and the couple was married back in Manitoba in October of that same year.

Their hope for their guests at Num-Ti-Jah Lodge is that it provides a quiet getaway from the everyday grind, and a chance to slow life down and enjoy the simple pleasures. Whether sitting in an Adirondack chair looking out over the glacier-fed waters or hiking to Bow Glacier Falls, they hope that guests will be rejuvenated and inspired by the mountain scenery that is unique to this part of Banff National Park.
